Hawthorn berries look like miniature apples. Yet, they have a tart taste similar to that of cranberries. Also known as Shan Zha in Chinese. I paid $7.99 for a bag of dried berries.

Health food stores carry dry berries. Perhaps some Farmer’s Markets or local supermarkets may carry the fresh fruit.

I bought the dried version. It makes a tart tea. Just grab a small handful and stir it in a cup of hot water. The best part is you can leave the berries at the bottom of your cup after each use. Just add water…viola tea. So you can make three or more cups until the flavor becomes faint. If you are seeking better digestion, drink after a meal.

If you like, you may eat berries. Be on the lookout for seeds. Hawthorn berry seeds are not edible. Or you may prefer the powdered version of the berry visit your local health food store.
